Regarding the concerns about technologies that have lower environmental impacts, alternatives have to be found to reduce the use of insecticide to control this pest. One way to do it is to identify genotypes tolerant to Oryzophagus oryzae. In this study, carried out in 2005/06 growing season, ten rice genotypes were evaluated at Epagri - Itajaí Experiment Station. Genotypes were constituted by 4 varieties and 6 lines from the final stages of Epagri´s Rice Breeding Program. The statistical analysis showed that the genotypes effect was significant, as expected. There was no genotype x treatment interaction, which means that each genotype, considered by itself, did not reach different yield levels with or without insecticide. Therefore, the analysis of factor ?A? was not significant, so that, in this study, under these conditions, Oryzophagus oryzae did not play a major role affecting rice yield. aBicheira aBreeding aCultural control aGorgulho aInsecticide aPest control aPraga de planta aWater weevil tIn: INTERNATIONAL TEMPERATE RICE CONFERENCE, 4., 2007, Novara (Italy).
