Data was obtained through helicopter aerial observation, which covered almost 200 Km of highways and access roads in an area with an extension of nearly 370 Km2, where, according to a State Agricultural Assessment from 2003 (LAC-2003), there were 728 rural properties and 2610 inhabitants. Sixty-one obstruction points were georreferenced by GPS, identified through high resolution satellite images and classified according to soil usage and coverage. Of these points, 85% of the landslides took place in areas that had had some type of anthropic impact, and only 15% were in areas where the vegetation was more uniform and dense. Given the results obtained it is evident that there is a need to conduct a new, precise inventory of soil usage and coverage on the vicinities of Morro do Baú (as well as other vulnerable areas) and also to study the fragility of the environment (high-risk areas).
