However, these valuable resources are not appropriately managed by who explore them, for better conservation. Bromus auleticus Trinius is a native occurring grass species of South America, being part of this native landscape. The species is used in the animal feeding (bovine and sheep), showing good production of dry matter and good nutritious value. In addition, it is a typical plant of the southem plateau of Brazil, where it exhibits wide and discontinuous dispersion, even so, with inexpressive number of individuals. In the long run, the improvement should allow the cultivation of this species not only in natural habitats but also in degraded areas for the production of high forage yield and quality to be available to the flock. The objective of this work was to characterize germplasm accessions in order to build a synthetic variety to be grow in this region. Leaf samples were collected of the 11 available accesses in the Experimental Station of Lages - SC (EPAGRI aGrasss species aHeterozigosity aImprovement tIn: CONGRESSO NACIONAL DE GENETICA, 45., 1999, Gramado, RS.
