However, it is normally difficult to adapt wild fish to experimental conditions. In the present study, a rearing system is proposed in order to obtain breeders from wild juveniles of the red snapper (Lutjanus analis) and the gray snapper (Lutjanus griseus). Initially, 13 red snappers (0.36   0.2 kg) and 8 gray snappers (0.33   0.28 kg) were caught in the Lagoa da Concei????o (Florian??polis-SC). Later, other 20 gray snappers were obtained and the whole group (n=28) was divided in two (bigger and smaller than 0.3 kg). Fish were maintained in two 8 m3 concrete tanks with an internal biological filter (red and gray snapper group 1) and in a similar tank without filter (gray snapper group 2). Water exchange was 20-40 % daily. Temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH and salinity were in the range 23,5-28,0 ??C, 5.5-6.0 mg/L, 7-8 and 33-35 g/L, respectively. Feed consisted of an experimental formulated diet (51 % protein) and of fresh chopped fish (sardine, mackerel and bonito). At the end of the experiment, red snappers were 2.03   0.52 kg, and gray snappers were 0.92   0.39 kg (group 1), and 0,27   0,10 kg (group 2). Fish showed good acclimation to experimental conditions, except for 5 red snapper that were lost.
