V. aBOTANIC INSECTICIDE OXYMATRINE MAY BE A SUITABLE OPTION FOR PALPITA FORFICIFERA (LEPIDOPTERAbCRAMBIADAE) MANAGEMENT IN OLIVE ORCHARDS.h[electronic resource] c2024 aThe olive caterpillar Palpita forficifera (Lepidoptera: Crambidae) is among the main phytosanitary problems of oliviculture. However, few insecƟcides are registered for use against this pest in Brazil (Agrofit 2024). The botanic insecƟcide Matrine?? is composed of ethanolic extract of Sophora flavescens, and has the alkaloid oxymatrine as its main insecƟcidal compound. This insecƟcide is registered for mite control in olive; nonetheless, its effect on P. forficifera is unknown and deserves to be invesƟgated. Therefore, this work aimed to evaluate the mortality of P. forficifera larvae and adults caused by Matrine?? in laboratory bioassays. The tested dosage of Matrine?? was 300mL.100L-1, in a simulated spray volume of 1000L.ha-1. Delegate?? (spinetoram) - 20g.100L-1 was used as posiƟve control (CasƟlhos; Brugnara 2019), while the negaƟve control was absence of spray. For larval stage, leaves from the alternaƟve host Ligustrum lucidum were sprayed with the insecƟcides and infested with third instar P. forficifera larvae. Eight replicates composed of five larvae each were used, totaling 40 insects. As for adults, insects were directly sprayed, and five replicates were used, each one composed by four adults, totaling 20 insects. Mortality was acessed at 24h, 48h, 72h and 120h aŌer spray, and corrected according to negaƟve control by Schneider Orelli?s formula. Mortality caused by Matrine?? on larvae was superior to 90% at 24 h, and reached 100% at 48 h of exposure, equaling to Delegate??. In adults, the mortality caused by Matrine?? at 24h and 48h aŌer spray was 15% and 63.2%, respecƟvely. Those values were significantly lower than those obtained by Delegate?? (60% and 94.7%), however at 72h and 120h Matrine?? caused 94.4 and 100% mortality, respecƟvely, not differing from the syntheƟc insecƟcide Delegate??. Results suggest that the botanic insecƟcide Matrine?? may be an ecofriendly and suitable opƟon for P. forficifera management in olive orchards. aintegrated pest management aolive caterpillar aSophora flavescens1 aBRUGNARA, E.
