Half of the stored fruit samples (32) were exposed to ≈ 1 ??L L-1 1-MCP for 12 h at ambient temperature within 24 h after harvest. Fruit cooling was initiated 24 h after harvest in the storage room at 0.8??C. Fruit samples for Air storage were packed in cardboard boxes lined with perforated low-density polyethylene bags to prevent fruit shrivelling, while fruit samples for CA (1.5 kPa O2 and 2.5kPa CO2) storage were enclosed in stainless steel chambers. Fruit quality was analysed after 2, 4, 6, and 8 months of storage plus 1 or 7 days of shelf-life at 22??C in regular air. The flesh firmness of ?SCS443 Isadora? apples fruit did not change during eight months of storage plus the seven days of shelf-life simulation regardless of the storage atmosphere and 1-MCP treatment. Fruit treated with 1-MCP and stored under CA showed a slight increase in flesh firmness after eight months of storage, compared to harvest firmness. The study shows the remarkable nature of ?SCS443 Isadora? apples fruit to maintain flesh firmness after harvest. Fruit retained the same flesh firmness as the harvest value after eight months of cold air storage plus seven days of shelf-life at 22??C. acontrolled atmosphere storage aethylene inhibition aflesh firmness aMalus x domestica borkh1 aNEUWALD, D.
