In order to test new varieties with agronomic potential for this region we implanted vineyards in places with two altitudes. First one in Tangará (Serra do Marari; 27º12'24 "S, 51º06'96" W, 1059m high) and other in Água Doce (26º43'92"S, 51º30'72"W, 1350m high). We conducted plants of Manzoni Bianco, Garganega, Vermentino, Verdicchio and Viognier in espalier (bilateral cordon), spaced of 1.5 x 3.0m, and used Paulsen 1103 rootstock. From 2011 to 2015 we evaluated fresh weight pruning (g), number of grapes per branch, weight of hundred berries (g), average weight of grapes (g), plant yield (kg), Ravaz index and total soluble solids. Grape acidity levels were higher in all varieties tested in Água Doce, which is explained by the higher altitude, and consequently, lower temperature. Garganega had greater number of grapes per branch, yield per plant and grape weight in Tangará, while Verdicchio produced more in Água Doce. Manzoni Bianco had the highest number of grapes per branch and consequently smaller grape size; Verdichio had the larger grapes mass, followed by Vermentino; the larger yield per plant were obtained with Verdicchio in Tangará, and Vermentino in Água Doce; the soluble solids content was higher in varieties Verdicchio and Manzoni Bianco and the lowest in Vermentino; the higher acidity levels were found in Garganega and smaller in Viognier. We conclude that all tested varieties are recommended for altitude regions of Santa Catarina and in Tangará highlights were the Vermentino and Manzoni Bianco and Água Doce both previous and Verdicchio. The choice of varieties depends on the winemaker production goal. This work expands the options available for productive varieties sector. agrapes aVines awine1 aSOUZA, E. L.1 aFELDBERG, N.
