The standard combo hydrogen cyanamide and mineral oil are used in Brazil to release dormancy. New compounds have efficacy on bud breaking, such as Erger??. The main goal of this work was to evaluate the efficacy of Erger?? combined either with calcium nitrate or mineral oil for inducing bud break. This study was carried out in the 2012/13 and 2013/14 crop seasons in Southern Brazil where winter chilling is marginal. The cultivars tested were Maxi Gala and Fuji Suprema. It was evaluated phenology, axillary and terminal bud breaking, fruit set, tree yield, number of fruits and fruit weight. Erger?? 2% to 5% + Calcium Nitrate 3% and Erger?? 1% + mineral oil 3.5% showed similar efficacy as the standard treatment hydrogen cyanamide + mineral oil and superiority to the untreated control tree for inducing bud break. ?Maxi Gala? trees treated with Erger?? 3% + calcium nitrate 3% had 65% of the axillary buds bursted compared to 60% with Dormex 0.7% + mineral oil 3,5% and 10% in the untreated control trees.
