D. aCluster thinning timing on Montepulciano and Cabernet Franc varieties cultivated in S??o Joaquim, Santa Catarina State - Brazilh[electronic resource] c2014 aThe objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of different cluster thinning timing close to ?v??raison? on the physicochemical characteristics of Montepulciano and Cabernet Franc varieties grown in high altitude regions in Santa Catarina State, southern Brazil. The experiment was conducted in a commercial Montepulciano vineyard located at 28??12'58''S, 50??06'45''W, 1,185 m a.s.l. during the vintages 2007, 2008 and 2009; and Cabernet Franc vineyard located at 28??15'20"S, 49??56'60"W, 1,284 m a.s.l, during 2010 and 2011 vintages. Treatments consisted on cluster thinning into three distinct times for both varieties. During ?v??raison?, about 15 days before ?v??raison? and 20 days after ?v??raison?. For Montepulciano, when cluster thinning is performed after ?v??raison? there is a reduction in cluster mass as well as a slightly reduction on acidity of grapes. For Cabernet Franc when the cluster thinning is performed during ?v??raison? there is an increase in total soluble solids, total acidity and total anthocyanin of grapes. In general, the cluster thinning can be indicated over the two weeks before or after ?v??irason? to Montepulciano and Cabernet Franc wine grapes produced in the southern Brazilian highlands. agrape quality ahigh altitude regions aVitis vinifera L1 aMARCON FILHO, J.
