Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the matrine-based biopesticide bioactivity against Diaphorina citri, Panonychus citri, Sitophilus zeamais, and Spodoptera frugiperda, pests of agricultural relevance in Brazil. For this purpose, we conducted bioassays under laboratory, semi-field and field conditions. In laboratory, the matrine-based biopesticide caused high toxicity on all the studied pest species. The estimated LC50 values, after 5 days of exposure were: D. citri (1,247 ??L L-1 of solution), P. citri (42 ??L L-1 of solution), S. zeamais (464 ??L kg-1 of grains), and S. frugiperda (384 ??L kg-1 of artificial diet). Considering the comparison of the mean lethal concentrations estimated, the acaricidal activity (on P. citri) was between ~10 and 100 times more pronounced than its insecticidal activity (on D. citri, S. zeamais and S. frugiperda). Besides the lethal effect, the biopesticide caused significant reduction on the feeding of D. citri adults (EC50=186 ??L L-1 of solution), number eggs of P. citri (EC50=29 ??L L-1 of solution), number of adults that emerged in its F1 progeny of S. zeamais (EC50=18 ??L kg-1 of grains), and on the S. frugiperda larval development (EC50=60 ??L kg-1 of artificial diet). In semi-field condition, its acaricidal activity was similar to that of spirodiclofen (0.06 g a.i. L-1). Despite of the biopesticide high efficacy, it showed a short residual effect (~1 day). In citrus orchards with natural infestation of P. citri and Eutetranychus banksi, this biopesticide formulation (150 ??L L-1 of solution) showed a satisfactory efficacy (~90%) in the mites population reduction, with its acaricidal activity similar to that of spirodiclofen. The matrine-based biopesticide is a useful component for crop protection where the studied pest species occur, mainly in ecological food production systems, which are in need of efficient tools for pest management. aManejo integrado aPesticida1 aRIBEIRO, L.
