F. N. aBuilding scenarios and decision-making methods for coastal aquaculture site selection in Brazil. A case study of South Bay in Florian??polis, Santa Catarina, Brazil ? Practical work.h[electronic resource] c2009 aThis case-study is part of research done by the Santa Catarina Agriculture Research and Extension Bureau (Empresa de Pesquisa Agropecu??ria e Extens??o Rural de Santa Catarina) for the Special Secretariat for Aquaculture and Fisheries (SEAP) of Brazil to produce information needed for the development of Local Plans for Mariculture Development (PLDM) in Brazil. In this exercise, a site selection analysis for oyster culture in the southern bay of the Florian??polis region is carried out, using several site selection factors identified by a group of 18 experts including oceanographers, geographers, cartographers, administrative personnel including extension agents, mariculture technicians, mussel and oyster farmers (VIANNA, 2007). The analysis is based on the suitability of environmental, socioeconomic and logistic factors. The Multi-criteria Evaluation methods applied here use the ArcGIS extension MCE-FLOWA that includes the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP ) by Saaty (2001) and the Ordered Weighted Averaging (OWA) by Boroushaki and Malkzewski (2008). The AHP allows factors to be compared utilising matrices and numerical scales, while the OWA favours evaluation of the relative importance of the factors according to the experts preference, the outputs of MCEFLOWA are a number of site selection scenarios. aaquaculture aGIS asite selection1 aSCOTT, P.
