Morphological and molecular tools were used to confirm the identity of one isolate of this fungus, named Epagri 01, obtained from Cosmopolites sordidus in banana plants in Santa Catarina, Brazil. Macroscopic and microscopic characteristics of colonies, mycelium and conidia grown on solid medium were all compatible with those typical of B. bassiana strains. Amplification of DNA using primers for the Internal Transcribed Spacer (ITS), sequencing of the amplified product, and comparison of the sequences with sequences deposited in the GeneBank database confirmed the identity of the isolate, that presented from 99% to 100% similarity with sequences assigned to B. bassiana.  aBiocontrol  aEntomopathogenic fungi  aITS region1 aMILANEZ, J.
