The effects of 2-(2-Chlorophenyl) Methyl-4,4-Dimethyl- 3-Isoxazolidione (Chlomazone) doses on some physiological aspects in soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merrill), rice (Oryza sativa L.) and watergrass (Echinochloa cruzgalii L. Beauv) were studied. Inhibition of Photosynthesis and of chlorophyll, carotenoids and phytoene accumulation in rice increased with chlomazone doses above 0.75 Kg a.i.ha-1. None of these effects were observed in soybean using up to 3.0 Kg a.i.ha-1. Water-grass plants treated with 0.75
Kg a.i.ha-1 died six days after emergence. In rice plants, chlomazone reduced Photosynthetic saturation irradiance and increased compensation irradiance. Redution in chlorophyll accumulation and a/b chlorophyll ratio caused by chlomazone was even greater when rice plants were grown under higher light flux density.
