Autoctone fish culture in Santa Catarina is very incipient. This work aimed at evaluating
the growth rate of native catfish (Rhamdia sp) under two commercial feed systems. The
experiment was carried out in 6 laterally concret tanks (17 m 2 ) with 2 treatments and 3
replications. The experimental design was totally randomized. The stocking density
consisted of 15 fingerlings per tank (0,88 fish m 2 ). In the first 30 days, the 32% crude
protein commercial feed was offered at a 3% daily ration and further at a 2 % ration. In the
first treatment the food was offered through automatic feeder and in the other sistem the
ration was served twice a day. After 91 days the mean weight rates were 292.01g and
265.33g; the daily gain 1.79 and 1.54g; and apparent feed conversion rate 1.91 and 2,14g respctivelly for the continuos and two time fedding sistems ( P>0.05). The results showed that Rhamdia sp can be a potentially important species for commercial
aquaculture.
