The ?Caminho da Mata Atlântica? (CMA) is a Brazilian trail, which is currently being implemented, and when completed it will be over 4,000 km long, crossing over 90 protected areas, including National and State Parks, forming a large ecological corridor. For the implementation of this major project, the rural extension is a fundamental instrument. In this sense, the objective of the present study is to evaluate the participation of rural extension in the implementation of the CMA, in the greater Florianópolis region, including 17 municipalities. Among the actions taken are the presentation and awareness of the ?Caminho da Mata Atlântica? Project to the municipalities of the Florianópolis region and the formation of a Municipal Animation Group for the development of the project's actions, through lectures, meetings and visits; Diagnose, identify, prioritize, define and signal the main path layout of the ?Caminho da Mata Atlântica? Project, including possible alternative routes, connecting existing trails, municipal, state, federal and private protected areas along the route. Identify existing and interested local operators.Promotion, training, adaptation, creation and development of tourism equipment (rural businesses) that will serve as strategic support points and structure the trails along with the CMA layout. Income generation for family farmers and artisanal fishers (lodging, food, leisure, rental and sale of equipment, trails and support for trails, marketing of artisanal products, access to waterfalls, landscapes, artisanal agro-industries, historical sites, museums, etc.). Development of business plans to guide priority initiatives. Develop publicity material about the trails, Conservation Units, value-added ventures, tourist support points. Raise awareness of the importance of the Atlantic Forest and engage in the cause of preservation. The well-planned development of the CMA, involving the rural extension as well as all other agents (community, public and private power and the third sector) allows the economic development, the preservation of cultural diversity through the valorization of the local culture and the rescue. Improve people's self-esteem by strengthening their identity. Thus, the project made it possible to engage society in the conservation efforts of the Atlantic Forest, through outdoor activities, promoting voluntary actions and participatory monitoring. It has strengthened local initiatives for sustainable tourism, creating a collaborative environment between different actors and new income alternatives, and seeks to conserve and restore connectivity between the remnants of the Atlantic Forest and protected areas along the trail, contributing to the improvement of the state. conservation of endangered species.
