The use of controlled atmosphere (CA) to supplement temperature and humidity management during apple storage results in na extension of storage life and maintenance of fruit quality. CA requirements vary depending on the characteristics of cultivars and production region. For long term storage of Fuji apples, CA storage in 1,5 ? 2,5 % O2 and 1 % or less CO2 at 33-34 EF is recommended to obtain maximum firmness, acidity and flavor with minimal incidence of physiological disorders after long-term storage of Fuji apples. Even using CA conditions within this range, the development of internal browning during storage can still occur depending on how the roo mis managed, particularly at harvest. |
