The rearing of the brasilian catfish (Pseudoplatystoma sp) has been increased during the last decade in Brazil. The success of this fish is consequence of several characteristics like a meat with good flavor and no intramuscular fishbone besides to be a fish with great value to the anglers. The aim of this work was to evaluete the development of catfish fingerlings fed with three brazilian comercial rations (treatments R1, R2 and R3) for carnivorous fish. The experiment was carred out from 05 at April to 22 at September of 2000. The inicial weigth and length were 175.3 0.03g and 29.2 2.53cm The fingerlings was kept in 9 net cages each one with 231 fishes. The body weigth and length of 60 fishes from each net cage were taken in every 28 days. The temperature wasmonitored diary and in each fifteen days D. O. was taken. During the experiment the lowest
temperature was 8.5 and the highest was 27 o C, and the oxigen concentratios were not less than 5.50mg/l. The rate of survival in all treatments was about 92.3%. The final weigth and length were 564.55, 493.55 and 379.77g and 42.41, 40.95 and 37,12cm to the treatments R1, R2 and R3 respectivelly. The quadratic regression analises demonstrated that from the inicial 28 days every rations showed different statistical performance. The best performance was obteined to treatment R1.
