Fish raised in seine tanks or small volume cages allow the achievement of bigger efficiency in productivity per unit of tank volume. The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of the Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus, from two different production laboratories: Lot 1 - AQUABEL Pisciculture - Chitralada Tilapia - Thailand and Lot 2 - TUPI Aquaculture - tilapias resulting from the breed between Chitralada Tilapia - Thailand and Nile tilapia raised in the State of Parana. The research was carried out from November 10 th , 1999 to May 11 th , 2000 and the medium water temperature during this period was of 25.0º C. On the first phase, the fish were raised in two seine tanks of 18m³, in a density of 472 fish/m³ , and on the second phase the fish were raised in 10 seine tanks of 4.0 m³, in a density of 300 fish/m³, in a dam of 8.8 ha of water surface, and a medium depth of 4.0 m, owned by "Piscicultura Novo Destino", located in the city of Taruma, São Paulo. The
fish were fed with commercial fish food, from ALISUL Alimentos S.A. (SUPRA rações) with 56% protein on the initial stage and 32% on the final stage. The research have been developed in two phases of 90 days each: nursery and growing. The medium productivity was of 134 to 155 kg/m³. The average of weight gain of the lots on the first phase was of 64,42 and 64,31g, respectively and on the second phase was of 485,46 and 445,94g, respectively. The apparent nutritional conversion of the lots was of 1,94:1 and 2,0:1,respectively on phase 1 and 1,45:1 and 1,61:1 respectively on phase 2. There haven't been found meaningful differences between the lots in the analyzed parameters.
