Shrimp is a valuable aquatic food resource high in protein and commands good export markets. It has become the main target commodity for aquaculture in recent years. The experiment was carried out at the Aquaculture Technology Center, Federal University of Ceara. In the experiment 40 post-larvae of Litopenaeus vannamei were reared for 73 days and the growth of shrimp in the rearing water with and without macroalgae were compared. The initial weight and length were 0.021 g and 1.40 cm, respectively. The average of pH and temperature in the rearing water with magroalgae were 7.75 and 27.8 C and without macroalgae were 7.71 and 27.6 C, respectively. The weight and final total length in the rearing water with macroalgae were 1.06 g and 5.67 cm, while to the rearing
water without macroalgae were 0.74 g and 4.81 cm, respectively. The survival rate was 55 % to the both treatments. The statistics results showed that there were differences in the final weight and length. We observed that the shrimp showed better growth in the rearing water with macroalgae Ulva.
