In Ceará the damming of rivers and the creation of reservoirs became the major instrument of the state against the effects of drought. Their purpose is water storage for use during the dry season. In addition some research on Litopenaeus vannamei culture has been conducted in fresh and brackish water to know, the resource potential for shrimp culture. This experiment was carried out at the Technology Center of Aquaculture (CTA), Federal University of Ceara (UFC). The objective of this study was to compare the length, weight and survival rate of post-larvae of shrimp L. vannamei cultured in various salt concentrations of 0, 11, 23 and 35?. In this experiment 16 aquariums were used. In each aquarium of 3.5 l of capacity were introduced 5 shrimps. The final average of weight,
length and survival rate for treatment 35, 23, 11 and 0? were 0.86g; 4.71cm and 85? / 0.94g; 4.82cm and 65 ? / 0.78g; 4.56cm and 65 ? / 0.78g; 4.56cm and 80? / 1.07g; 5.12cm and 80 ?, respectively. The tests showed no difference between the treatments. It is possible to culture marine shrimp L. vannamei in salinities, 0, 11, 23 and 35?. Then probably this specie of shrimp can be cultured in semi-arid region of Ceara State.
