The Integrated Crop-livestock Systems (ICLS) are an increasing reality in Brazil with the expansion of new implemented areas and interest, "sowing" concepts and "reaping" results for sustainable agricultural intensification (ALVES et al., 2017). Starting with the consolidation of no-tillage farming, the Pró-Palha Project (ANDREOLA and WILDNER, 1999) aimed to increase the adoption of this technology in Santa Catarina, highlighting the discussion about integrated crop-livestock systems through studies on soil fertility, fertilizers sources, soil conditioners, crop management, cover crop intercropping, and the impact of grazing on maize and bean crops. After the year of 2006, with the consolidation of research groups in southern Brazil, the indexing term "Integrated crop-livestock system" gained strength. Noteworthy pioneers in Santa Catarina include the Epagri - Experimental Station of Canoinhas and Campos Novos, as well as the Federal University of Paraná. The work of these institutions demonstrates the positive impact of proper management during the winter phase on summer crops (BALBINOT JÚNIOR et al., 2008, BALBINOT JÚNIOR et al., 2011a, BALBINOT JÚNIOR et al., 2011b, VEIGA, 2014). Recently, UDESC/Centro de Ciências Agroveterinárias gained prominence as the second institution in Brazil with the most publications in the topic, mainly about studies in soil quality aspects in ICLS (VALANI et al., 2020), contributing to 10.87% of reviewed publications since 2012 in Brazil. |
