Wine tourism is an important sector, with significant growth, in tourism branch and hotel industry, and represents an extremely important opportunity for development of wine producing regions, because through it the whole region develops. In addition to visits to wineries, wine tourism boosts wine sales, gastronomy, business and infrastructure investments throughout the region. However, although wineries know the importance of this segment for their development and income generation, a number of obstacles are faced by these wineries, especially in new wine producing regions. In this context, this work sought to evaluate and understand the main obstacles faced by wineries to consolidation of wine tourism in three wine producing regions, located in Southern Brazil. The study was developed through a qualitative research, from a descriptive perspective. The methodology used to carry out the work was a case study on a set of wineries inserted in ?Vales da Uva Goethe?, Santa Catarina State; in high altitudes regions, Santa Catarina State; and in the region of ?Campos de Cima da Serra?, Rio Grande do Sul State; each of the companies interviewed was questioned about the main obstacles faced. The analysis and interpretation of these data were carried out in a broad way, correlating with other knowledge and comparing to other related studies, in order to succeed in a diagnosis of barriers to consolidation of wine tourism in these regions. For the three wine producing regions evaluated, the same obstacles were observed, emphasizing that skilled labor and lack of infrastructure are the main obstacles faced by wineries in development of wine tourism. Regarding the infrastructure, it is not only related to winery, but the need to make improvements in infrastructure by public sector, such as lighting, telephone transmission lines and, mainly, improvements in the access roads. In this sense, it is essential the support of public agencies, in order to provide adequate infrastructure for the wineries. Wine tourism is an activity carried out in the three wine producing regions evaluated; for all wineries interviewed, this is a segment of fundamental importance for growth and development of the companies. However, a series of actions are needed, and in this sense the union between companies, investments in infrastructure, marketing, skilled labor and tourist attractions are fundamental for consolidation of wine tourism activity in the three regions evaluated.
