The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of cultivar, indolebutyric acid
(IBA) and pH of irrigation water on rooting of hardwood cuttings of blueberry. The
experimental design was a split-plot with randomized blocks. The 16 treatments
tested originated from the combination of the levels of three factors: cultivar (?Delite?
and ?Briteblue?), IBA (with and without) and pH of irrigation water (4.5, 5.5, 6.0 and
6.9 as control). The pH factor was assigned to the main plots and the combination of
IBA and cultivar levels to the split plots. Each split plot consisted of 18 cuttings.
Cuttings were made using segments of main shoots with four nodes. After 170 days,
assessments were made of the percentage ofcutting survival, rooted and with callus
formation; number of shoots, number of roots and length of the longest root. The
polynomial regression showed that the percentage of cutting survival is enhanced as
the pH increases up to 5.6, but decreases after that. The cultivar ?Briteblue? surpassed
?Delite? in the percentage of survival, cuttings rooted, with callus formation and
number roots per cutting. In conclusion, the acidification of the irrigation water
increases the percentage of survival of blueberry hardwood cuttings. |
