The marine shrimp culture in Brazil has been growing rapidly over the last few years. The total production increased from 2,762 tons in 1996 to 15,000 tons in 1999, and is expected to reach 25,000 tons in 2000. This expressive development is related to the introduction of the species Litopenaeus vannamei, the quality of shrimp rations, besides the adoption of technologies such as pond management (bottom drying, liming and fertilizing), water quality management, higher stocking densities and the utilization of feeding tray systems. The aim of this work was to evaluate eighteen cycles of culture, in two ponds of Aquamaris Aquacultura S.A. shrimp farm, located in João Pessoa, Paraíba, from 1996 to 1999. The stocking density and the period of culture varied from 9,1 to 26 PL's/m² and from 74 to 135 days, respectively. At the end of the culture the data of weight
gain (g), productivity (kg/ha/day), growth (g/wk), survival (%) and feed conversion ratio were recorded. During this period it was observed an increasing in both stocking density and productivity, without negative effects on the water quality nor on the shrimp growth.
